This… is… Sparta!

300
I know, I know.. The posters are everywhere, trailers are shown on tv, and everybody talks about this movie… Too much hype, and zero chances not to get annoyed with all that. At least this is how I feel.

When I first saw production shots from the 300 more then a half a year ago, it looked quite lame:) Well yeah, because of all those blue and green screens with just a bunch of Spartans on the set, it looked a bit ridiculous :) And I kind of forgot about it. But then a couple of months ago i saw the trailer. And this time I was absolutely consumed by it. For me it was breathtaking. And then an eager waiting for the release of 300 began.

So the time has come, the movie is out and we’ve seen it. For the maximum effect me, Veronika, Aidan and his girlfirend went to see it at the London IMAX, “the biggest screen Britain ever seen”. And it was worth it :)

Though, I got mixed feelings about it. To be honest a few scenes seemed quite weak to me, especially Queen’s speech, and yes, there are quite a few naive, stupid, call them as you want, Hollywood-style moments, which for me depreciated the whole movie, but still it was absolutely spectacular and worth spending both time and money. Amazing landscapes, beautiful actors, great soundtrack, the battle scenes… Beside, being in digital media industry makes you particularly appreciate what they have created in there.

And still sadly I was not completely carried away by it. Too high expectations are to blame. As always. But I’m going to go and see it again. May be I just wasn’t in the right mood after all :)

Celebrity weekend

Madame Tussauds
Somehow weekdays are still the most boring part of a week, though even weekend are not that exciting at all. But I was really looking forward to this particular one, because we had a couple of reasons for celebration. The first one was a traditional woman’s days (celebrated mostly in the post soviet block countries), and since me and Veronika, we both were working late during the week, I took her on Saturday lunch to the one of the nearest restaurants ( we have a huge range of them in our neighborhood with all sort of cuisine (Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Japanese, etc), so you can always try something new. And this time we decided to have lunch in a Persian one. It was a nice distinctive eastern place where people (mostly eastern) come to with the whole their families. Needles to say the food was delicious, especially a fresh bread baked literally while we were waiting for our order. And we were wise enough to omit the starters, because the portions were ENORMOUS! I think i could easily split mine in 3 meals and would not be hungry :) Well, east is east…

Another occasion for celebration was the fact that it was exactly 2 years since Veronika came to London (i joined her a little bit later). So what we did this Saturday was quite symbolic: I took her to the museum of Madame Tussauds. Surprisingly (or not) after these years living in the capital we hadn’t been to that top tourists attraction, London’s landmark yet. Well, I guess this is how it is : the more you stay somewhere the less you see of that place :) Ironic.

As usual, Veronika did not know where we were going until the very last moment (I just can’t help but loving doing surprises), but here is a Baker street and here is the Museum’s dome. Can hide no more :)

We’ve spent there around two hours and I must say we had a good fun :) It was all about taking pictures. Celebrities, celebrities, celebrities. Present and past ones. Ones looking very much alike, and other with a bit less resemblance. Our visit included few other attractions as well, and one of those was the Chamber of horror: a narrow passage through the dark rooms, jail and mental house cells. Surprisingly it was not all about wax figures standing around which I expected to do some movements accidentally, but real people: psychos, maniacs and serial killers emerging out of the darkness and breathing at you very closely, sometimes right in your face. At some point it was so easy to forget they were actors and to start feeling a bit alarmed and scared. Of course their most hunted prey were the girls who were absolutely terrified :) Before that I was thinking about us going to London’s dungeons on some weekend, but probably I’d rather give it a pass :)

So yes, our visit to the wax museum was absolutely enjoyable :) See the gallery dedicated to our visit.
