434 steps. No lift. Narrow passages. Mind your head. Now enjoy the view.

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

We were just walking downtown after having fun with the Telectroscope and were passing St.Paul’s, when we realized we hadn’t visited it yet, even after living all these years in the capital. So the timing was kind of perfect for us.

434 steps. This is exactly what it takes to get to the Golden gallery at the top of St.Paul’s cathedral. And climbing all those steps wasn’t easy :) But it was definitely worth it. The view of London was very fine, not worse than you can get from the London Eye. So yeah, it was very enjoyable, and walking down is so, so much easier, hehe. Done within a minute :)

P.S. There was no gold in the Golden gallery :( What a sham!

Steampunk Telectroscope in London

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Actually, that huge Victorian times telescope, which can be fond near the Tower Bridge, is quite a lot of fun.  It digs deeps down the earth and comes out on the other side, in New York, next to the Brooklyn Bridge. So, with the white board and a marker you can communicate with New Yorkers in real time. This is a-maz-ing! :)

“Hardly anyone knows that a secret tunnel runs deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean. In May 2008, more than a century after it was begun, the tunnel has finally been completed. An extraordinary optical device called a Telectroscope has been installed at both ends which miraculously allows people to see right through the Earth from London to New York
and vice versa.”

Check Telectroscope’s official page to read more and see some cool pictures.

What’s the use of Facebook?

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

The other day we were coming back from the gym and found a wallet in the nearest bushes. We picked it up. Obviously, no cash. Looked like it was stolen from someone not very fortunate. As we found out from all sort of credit and membership cards in the wallet, it belonged to some girl. But no luck with any real contact details. I felt like it was too much hassle to take it to the police, but didn’t know what to do either.

And then Veronika had a brilliant idea. Facebook! The girl was a student, so it was more than likely we would be able to find her there. And we did. Instantly :)

The girl was shocked to get my message, for she had not found out about her loss yet. The next day we met and I give her stuff back.

So yeah, Facebook finally proved itself of any use in the real world :) And one more thing: you should probably keep your phone number in the wallet… Just in case…
